Samsung Galaxy S4: My Likes and Dislikes

The current Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S4, is one of the hottest selling phones out there. Samsung even released different variants of the S4 – S4 Mini, S4 Active and S4 Zoom.According to the latest data, the Korean tech giant already sold 20 Million units in just 2 months after its release. Samsung is currently facing tough competition with some Android brands who sells top notch specs but on a much much lower price. In the Philippines we call them “local brands” – MyPhone, Starmobile, Cherry Mobile, Arc Mobile, Torque, etc. These brands have been releasing top of the line Android smartphones for more or less P10,000. I talked to many of my friends and they are excited with Starmobile’s new flagship – Starmobile Knight. A smartphone with an 18-megapixel camera, 8 megapixel, front shooter, quad core processor, and the latest Jellybean software.

But there are still lots of Samsung loyalists out there, The S4 is still selling like hotcakes. I have a cousin who owns an S4. I played with it for a few days and posted a review on Unbox. So here are things I like and dislike about the phone

  • Gorgeous 5-inch fulll HD display
  • Good photos from the 13 megapixel camera
  • lots of camera options – drama shot, burst shot, etc
  • air and eye gestures
  • LTE enabled
  • the new 5 row keyboard (numbers are found on the first line on the top like a regular computer keyboard)

  • plastic build (feels cheap for a price of around P30,000)
  • fingerprint magnet body
  • TouchWiz UI (I just prefer the stock Android experience)
  • too many gimmicky features
  • too many bloatware
  • battery drains easily when LTE is on
