The Acer Iconia W3 – The First 8-Inch Windows 8 RT Tablet

Acer also announced this week the first Windows 8 RT tablet bearing an iPad mini-like 8-inch screen. What’s more peculiar is the tablet has a physical keyboard dock which is the same size of a 13-inch laptop.

The 8-inch screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800 display, a dual core Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.8GHz, 32 or 64GB internal storage and additional 32GB expandable storage via microSD.

According to the blogs I’ve read, the screen of the tablet has poor viewing angles and dull colors. The screen is hard to view under bright light either. This is understandable because this is a budget Windows 8 tablet. The OS is smooth and very fluid thanks to the dual core Intel Atom processor.

I personally find the keyboard dock a little weird but very useful, The size is almost the same size of a 13-inch laptop’s keyboard. Its a perfect size for typing ¬†though. According to Engadget, the tablet wobbles when docked to the keyboard. When not in use, tablet is docked at the reverse side of the keyboard. What’s worse, the dock is powered by a pair of ¬†AAA batteries. The keyboard is on a work in progress and hopefully this won’t the the final end product.

The Acer Iconia W3 is due for release on Q3, 2013.
