The Pocophone f1 took us back in time to the humble beginnings of OnePlus when it launched the OnePlus One. The Pocophone has a unibody design with polycarbonate construction. In other words, it is made with plastic materials.
In all fairness, we do love the plastic construction. It is more durable than glass and metal combo because the material does not bend, brake or chip off when unwanted fall happens to the device. It is quite hefty but that’s because of the 4,000 mAh battery. You won’t have problems with smudges either because of its matte finish.
We have here is the Global version of the Pocophone F1. This is also the 6GB RAM/128GB ROM variant. Its main selling point is the chipset – qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 845 chipset. As expected, it performed like a true flagship. We had this phone for more than 24 now and it is buttery smooth. We just have to test it further for our full review.
One thing we don’t like about Xiaomi phones is their MIUI skin on top of Android. Although the company made some efforts to simplify the UI over many versions, it is still quite cartoonish looking and takes some time to get used to. Good thing Xiaomi has Android One phone if you hate their UI.
In the case of the Pocophone F1, Xiaomi did a different approach with the phone’s UI. It is still called MIUI 9 but unlike the standard UI, this has an app drawer and looks and feels more stock Android with Xiaomi’s few software tricks. We do love this UI better.
CAMERA (with first camera sameples)
For only P16,990 and given the fact of its high end specs, you maybe thinking of where Xiaomi may have cut corners to bring the price that low. Many thought its the camera. Surprisingly, the camera was quite good! On daylight shots, the 12MP rear camera did a great job with its shots. Bokeh effects are on point as well.
Here are some of our first camera samples.

The Pocophone is truly a phone to watch out! Bringing a phone with high end specs and features at a low price point is hard but we commend Xiaomi for taking some courage and releasing this phone globally. Xiaomi promised Android 9.0 Pie update before the year ends so let’s see how that goes.
If you just want a straightforward, no frills, functional, reliable phone to use with fast UI, good camera and long battery life, then look no further and just buy the Pocophone F1. We will be doing a more extensive review of this phone. Please do watch out our full review.
