This time of the year, we usually take a vacation from tech blogging as many brands don’t announce or release a new phone. To our surprise, there were a lot of phones announced and released during these last three months.
Since there are so many, we picked 5 of them that is worth your attention and time. They vary in terms of price point and in no particular order.
It is quite odd for a company to release a successor 5 months after the release of its predecessor. So we think the OPPO F9 is an upgrade of the previous model.
Replacing the F7 on its old price point Php 17,990, the OPPO F9 is bringing VOOC fast charge and a new waterdrop display to the table. They’ve bumped up the RAM to 6GB and adds a 2MP depth sensor along with the 16MP rear sensor.
The OPPO F9, as of this writing, is now available for pre-orderr. Price is at P17,990.
Huawei’s sister brand Honor is doing very well with its sales even though most of their transactions are currently via online stores. The Honor 10 is the company’s current flagship with the same specs fro the Huawei P20 series. Priced at P25,990 you get a very capable phone, good camera and lag free performance.
If you have a tight budget, you can take a look at the Honor Play. For only Php 15,990 you get the same flagship specs for a much lower price. Now we know why Huawei is getting so much buzz these days.
The Huawei Nova 3 and its affordabk sibling, the Nova 3i came as a surprise to us. The hype for the Huawei P20 series is still up when the company decided to strike another release.
We know some budget conscious folks will find the price of the Huawei P20 series to be a bit steep though much lower than Samsung’s Galaxy S series. So releasing the Nova 3 and 3i to the market is a good move. Both phones have four cameras, a Huawei P20 -like design (without the Leica branding) and running Android 8.1 Oreo. The Nova 3 is priced at Php 25,990 while the Nova 3i is priced at Php 15,990. We highly recommend these phones!
Samsung Galaxy J8
To be honest, we are not fans of Samsung’s midrange Galaxy J series. They feel so cheaply made, then its pricey and the company does not support updates for them.
And then the Samsung Galaxy J8. This is the first time we fell in love with the cameras. It is best for low-light photography plus it is a Samsung and quality is also included with the brand. We are happy to see a sturdy metal construction on this phone too. It is priced the same as the Nova 3i at P15,990. But still do take note of its cons before buying one.
The Zenfone 5Z was announced way back the early months of 2018 but it was only made available last June. It is a worthy competitor with the likes of the Honor 10, the OnePlus 6, and the Xiaomi Mi 8 because of its flagship specs and competitive price tag Php 29,995. Nice design, good cameras, nice video capabilities and fast charging will make to take a second look at the Zenfone 5Z.
You might be saying that there are still good phones our there but are not included in the list. True, there are good phones out there launched and released in June to August 2018. These phones really do excel especially with the requirements of the Filipino smartphone user. Pick any of these phones and you will never go wrong with them.
