HARDWARE AND DESIGN
If you loved the OPPO F5, for sure the OPPO A83 will also capture your hearts because they almost share the same overall appearance and design. Aside from the antenna bands, silver lining on the edge, and the fingerprint scanner on the back, almost everything of its design are inherited on the OPPO F5.
Having a full screen display on a smartphone under P10k budget is a plus factor. The OPPO A83 featuring a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio is a real deal because using it feels like experiencing the OPPO F5 on the body of a smaller device.
When it comes to screen brightness, the device is capable enough show the screen content clearly whether indoors or outdoors. During bedtimes at night, the screen is also capable to dim enough to protect our eyes or you can also use the feature called Night Shield to add some yellowish tone color into the screen.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
Running on top of this device is the Android 7.1 Nougat plus the ColorOS version 3.2. Although we are looking forward for an Android 8.0 update on this device, OPPO is still trying to continuously support its devices by sending the latest security patch.
Gaming and multi-tasking are not also a problem with this phone because it also shares the same 2.5GHz Octa-core Mediatek Helio P23 processor and Mali G71 graphics from the OPPO F5. Benchmark scores are surprisingly high for a smartphone under P10k budget.
Games like NBA 2K18, Mobile Legends, VainGlory, and Rules of Survival are all manageable to play. Heating is also very minimal and acceptable specially when using mobile data while playing.
Since the fingerprint scanner was not available, the face unlock technology on the OPPO A83 is surprisingly fast! Most of the times, specially on well-lighted environment, when you press the power button, you will not even have to see the lockscreen or the face-scanning screen. It looks like the phone’s facial recognition technology works as soon as it detected your face even if the screen is lock. And based on our experience, this is one of the fastest facial unlock technology so far specially considering it price range.
The 13 MegaPixel rear camera on the OPPO A83 is capable of shooting sharp and well-balanced color in good lighting conditions. On papers, the f/2.2 aperture might be too small and it could deliver blurry images in low-light but we are surprised that it still manage to lessen the noise and maintain black color into black.
While, on the front, the OPPO A83 was equipped with an 8 MegaPixels with f/2.2 aperture camera. Do not look at the MegaPixel size if you are trying to compare it with the 20 MP on the OPPO F5. Since it is also equipped with A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology, it can produce almost the same quality as compared with the shots we have taken using the OPPO F5 before.

Using the device on a whole day of test, internet surfing, and gaming might be very stressful for a smartphone. The OPPO A83 has managed to survive a whole day of moderate to above average usage. Also one sign of a well optimized battery consumption that this device portray is the low percentage deduction during night when you are not even using the device from 6-8 hours of sleep.
The OPPO A83 is a truly bang-for-the-buck smartphone. Starting from its well built design, its capable specifications, A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology, and one of the fastest facial unlock feature, this device is a real deal and for sure you will not regret when you buy it. Regardless of some trade-offs like no fingerprint scanner, reduced camera pixels, and smaller camera apertures, the OPPO A83 still standout from its competitors under the P10k price category.
Because we have enjoyed using the OPPO A83 specially its amazing selfie camera, we now give it our #FTASealOfRecommendation! 🙂
