It indeed a good year for Huawei. The company is getting good sales in the Philippines and they got all market segments covered. The most popular segment is the 6 to 10k price bracket in which many Pinoys consider it as a soft spot.

HARDWARE AND DESIGN
We see metal unibody design from the competition so Huawei has a metal and glass combo for the Huawei GR3 2017. We’ve never seen a glass/metal combo at this price point with excellent build quality before. It is very sleek, surprisingly lightweight and this black GR3 2017 is just stunning. We just don’t know if the glass at the back is a Gorilla Glass but if its not, this will be prone to scratches. Good thing the company included a free case.
The 5.2-inch display is fairly decent. It is on HD instead of Full HD but it is understandable given the price. We noticed that it is a bit washed out though sunlight legibility is tolerable.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
Going to the software, the GR3 2017 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with Huawei’s new EMUI 5. This new Huawei custom skin allows you to have a dedicated app tray if you don’t like the UI’s iOS-like interface. Persoanally we prefer this than its older version as we love Android’s look and feel.
Performance has been solid. It can run NBA 2k17 smoothly as long as you tweak the settings a bit. All common games like Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run will run smoothly here.
Of course the phone’s greatest strength is the camera. It does not have a dual camera set up just like its pricier sibling, the GR5 2017, but its single 12 megapixel camera is very decent. Take a quick look at some of our sample photos.
All connectivity and security options are available – 4G/LTE. WiFi, Bluetooth and Fingerprint Scanner. Huawei hold the title as the best fingerprint scanner on a phone and it holds true with the GR3 2017. The phone also get better signal from either Smart and Globe networks especially when you are in an area with weak signal. Calls are clear with no issues.
Another positive review – the battery. The 3,000 mAh battery is nothing much but norm with smartphones this size but to our surprise, it lasts longer than any smartphone we’ve tested. We managed to get around 4 hours and 20 minutes of screen on time with our video loop test. On our moderate use. we managed to get more than 24 hours of battery life. There’s no need to charge it every single day.
Huawei has definitely won our hearts with the Huawei GR3 2017. For only P8,990 you get a top performing Kirin 655 chipset with generous 3GB RAM for multitasking, a great camera and an amazing battery life. Not to mention it is a good looking phone too. The Huawei GR3 2017 truly rules this price segment. We highly recommend it.
