HARDWARE AND DESIGN
The Vivo V5 Lite shares the same design language with its siblings the Vivo V5 and the higher end V5 Plus. It is still in a unibody metal design and it comes in pink like what we have here. To make the phone affordable, the fingerprint scanner comes off the feature list.
The 5.5-inch display may be only in HD but it remains good overall. It has good color reproduction and can stand under direct sunlight. It has a smart stay feature in which the screen is always on as long as you are looking at it.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
The Mediatek MT6750 chipset has proven to be smooth and a good multitasker. Many Vivo and even rival OPPO smartphones are powered by this chipset. Expect the same smoothness and performance from the Vivo V5 Lite.
It runs on Funtouch OS, Vivo’s custom skin on Android. It is very iOS-like but it is very smooth and gives a different look. The UI takes some time getting used to but this won’t be an issue as you are very excited to fiddle around with it when you own one.
Both the 16 megapixel front shooter and 13 megapixel rear camera takes very good photos on any lighting conditions. For the selfie part, the soft light can illuminate your selfies without getting it overexposed. Here, take a look at some of our sample photos
Just like we said, there is no fingerprint scanner. Honestly, its not of a big deal with us but if you need more security, you can put numbers or patterns. LTE connectivity is a standard and we normally get 20 to 30Mbps on both Smart and Globe networks. Remember, internet speed is network dependent. WiFi and Bluetooth comes standard too.
The 3,000 mAh battery is more than enough to power the Vivo V5 Lite. It can last for two days with light to moderate usage – that is if you rely much on WiFi more than 4G/LTE, On moderate to heavy use, we managed to get over 11 hours with video looping and games plus 4G/LTE turned on.
We’ve actually reviewed smartphones with this camera, this chipset and this screen and we love it. But what makes it more attractive to us is the price – P9,990. For that price, you get a reliable processor, generous RAM and internal storage, good display, great selfie camera, and big battery. The lack of fingerprint scanner is not much of a loss for us. The Vivo V5 Lite is indeed the best budget selfie smartphone you can buy right now.
