HARDWARE AND DESIGN
When you see the phone for the first time, it clearly shows where did Vivo got its inspiration from especially when flip the phone at the back. The design has been actually generic for us since many smartphones got their design inspiration from Apple. One big advantage is you get this beautiful design at less than half the price.
We don’t normally cover audio on our review but we just can’t let this pass on this phone. Before Vivo concentrated into camera tech, their products have really audio whether though the speakers or via earphones. The Vivo V5 Plus is no exception. Audio is very loud and crisp when listening through the speakers. Same thing when using our third party earphones.
Its nice to see a full HD display on this device. Colors do pop and has good viewing angles. Using the Vivo V5 Plus is manageable under direct sunlight since brightness output is adequate.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
If you have not tried any Vivo smartphone before, the software might take you some time getting used to. Funtouch OS is Vivo’s custom skin on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. When we first tried a Vivo smairtphone, we were first confused on the interface. There are no quick settings at the drop down notifications but all quick settings are found when swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
Day to day performance has been excellent. With 4GB RAM, you have more room for your open apps and the Snapdragon 625 performs extremely well on heavy tasks and gaming. By the way, the Vivo V5 Plus has the same chipset as the ASUS Zenfone 3.
And here’s the star of the show – those cameras. The 20 megapixel and 8 megapixel camera work together to take that perfect selfie. Both cameras will take a photo of the subject and the software will combine those photos into one. With this, bokeh is possible with your selfies. Do not underestimate the rear camera as it is as capable as the front. Check out the photos!
All necessary connectivity features are present – WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner and LTE. Calls are clear with no issues and WiFi reception is excellent. We did not encounter any problems with reception. Fingerprint Scanner is on point and it unlocks the phone really fast. Internet connection has been within normal range.
Compared with the Vivo V5 which has the same battery, we think the full HD display of the V5 Plus can take toll on the battery but apparently it did not. The battery lasted around 10 hours of mixed moderate to heavy use.
The Vivo V5 Plus is the selfie smartphone to beat! Dual front cameras capable of bokeh selfies means photobombers can be blurred. Performance is terrific thanks to its Qualcomm Chipset. Amazing 16 megapixel rear camera takes good photos just like the dual front cams. The price? P19,990. For us the price is justifiable since it has really good specs to match. 🙂
