Everyone was surprised when Alcatel had an offspring out of Flash Mobile earlier this year. Flash Mobile is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alcatel (TCL Communications) but operates separately from its mother company. It will have its own R & D that will be for future Flash smartphone. The first smartphone without the Alcatel branding is the Flash Plus 2 and it is a big leap from its predecessor, the Alcatel Flash Plus 2. We’ve been using the Flash Plus 2 for 10 days now and here’s our review.

HARDWARE AND DESIGN
From its predecessor’s plastic build, the Flash Plus 2 now has metal body… most of it. The top and bottom part is still plastic but everything else is metal. The back is removable which reveals the non removable battery, SIM card trays and micrSD card slot. Looking at the front it does look like the old Samsung Galaxy Note 4 especially with that button that also serves as a fingerprint scanner.
Overall it is a gorgeous smartphone. We do love the Venus Gold variant that we have. If you need phone cases, Lazada is also selling cases for the Flash Plus 2. Lastly, the audio is surprisingly loud and details still intact even on high volumes. That is because of the HiFi chip that gives good audio quality on the phone.
The display also gets an upgrade – it is now on Full HD. The 5.5-inch display is bright, vivid and has accurate but punchy colors. It can also withstand the hash sunlight. Viewing angles are also good.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
Mediatek’s Helio P10 chipset is doing very well on the Flash Plus 2. We never experienced lags of stutters on the duration of our review. We are reviewing the 2GB RAM variant and when it comes to gaming and multitasking, we think the 2GB RAM can handle most of it. But if you wish to play graphic intense games, we recommend that you get the 3GB RAM variant. You just have to shell out more cash – P8,490 but for the price, it is worth it.
Flash Mobile is using vanilla Android as its UI but there are very few tweaks here and there. Gestures like Double Tap to wake and lock the screen is present.
The 13 megapixel camera works very well on both well lit and dark conditions. Shutter speed is quite fast though autofocus is quite slow. But overall results are fairly decent. It is a good camera indeed!
WiFi, Bluetooth and LTE comes in standard. The fingerprint scanner works very well and registers our fingerprints fast. Unlocking the phone using the fingerprint scanner is quite fast too. LTE speeds are decent on both Smart and Globe. Calls are clear with no issues.
The battery life is surprisingly good despite having a Full HD display and an octa core processor. On our battery drain test, we managed to get 4 hours and 12 minutes of screen on time and about 10 hours of battery. Our test includes watching movies online, You Tube, Clash Royale, Sky Force Reloaded, social media, photos with 4G/LTE and WiFi turned on.
Whether getting the 3GB or 2GB RAM variant is a good deal! Flash Mobile did a great job with this phone – good build quality, good camera, hassle free performance, nice and bright display and good battery life. Buying the Flash Plus 2 is the best deal you get this year. 🙂
