China’s mobile phone giant, Lenovo, presents the global public with their spin on the ultimate reality. They released the Lenovo Vibe X3 with Theater Max, a company developed technology, aimed to bring the Virtual Reality experience closer to their users. So, we only didn’t have a smart phone to play with but an AntVR as well. We took it on a weekend trip and experienced a lot of good vibes coming from this phone. Check it out below:

HARDWARE and DESIGN

The Vibe X3 is definitely made with premium materials. Even upon first handling the phone, we noticed that it is a bit heavier  given the metal body and premium plastic backing. It is slim and has an easy grip. The Fingerprint Scanner found at the rear does remind us of a similar design used by another Korean mobile giant — whose brand also starts with a ‘L’. Also, unlike most phones, the front facing speakers is definitely something to note on the Vibe X3. The phone comes with a free clear case which we find essential to have when you hit the price range this phone is at.

DISPLAY and SOUND

A home theater in your pocket is Lenovo’s promise and it sure does deliver. The  5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display and with the Adreno 418 graphics convey clear and crisp images and videos at your fingertips. Moreover, it sports a 178° of wide-angle viewing that you can also share the experience with others.

The Dual front facing speakers powered by Dolby ATMOS not only boosts your listening experience on the phone but also when you use headphones. The phone comes with a Dolby App that allows you to better manage your immersive listening experience. The Vibe X3 produces HD quality sound with minimal distortion.

SOFTWARE and PERFORMANCE

The Vibe X3 is runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Vibe UI. Though out the time that we spent on it with the 3GB RAM, there was barely any lag. We ran Asphalt 8 on it and it ran pretty well on mid range graphics but it did crash on high graphics.

Seeing that the Vibe X3 comes with AntVR, we tested it out on a few games namely Lamper and Deep Space Battle. Only thing we noticed is that there is some glare coming from the sides of the screen that we suspect is due to the headgear’s open side design. Though this doesn’t distract you greatly from the game or video you are watching, we found it best to use it with low ambient light.

BATTERY

The 3,500 mah battery can carry you throughout a full day of regular use. This means you can browse online, manage your social media plus text messaging and calls. Though when you do get to use it with the AntVR, it would only last you about 3 hours and since this phone does heat up around the 15 minute mark that’s where it really starts eating the battery.

CONNECTIVITY

It is a Dual SIM smartphone so we were able to test this out on both Smart and Globe at the same time. The calls came in clear and no delay in text messaging reception. Though keep in mind that we mainly used it in the metro. When we took it up to Tagaytay and Laiya over the weekend, we still experienced similar problems with other phones as we hit low signal areas. LTE is supported by the phone as well for better data connectivity.

CAMERA

We’re glad to say that Lenovo also paid attention to the camera on the Vibe X3. The 21 MP rear camera and 8 MP front facing camera does make documenting everyday life more fun. Details are muddy when you do zoom it but over-all picture quality is good. If there is one thing that needs improvement on is the response time and focusing time on the camera application.

VERDICT

The Lenovo Vibe X3 does deliver the ultimate reality but also at an ultimate price. It’s definitely quite a phone to have and will definitely give you premium features which is expected at Php 22,099. Given the jam-packed features and Dual SIM capabilities, it is phone that can go from work to play which we definitely recommend for those that don’t want to be holding too many gadgets. The Lenovo Vibe X3 experience gave us good vibes all the way.
