This is the season where you buy your kids a new phone in time for their recent graduation, preparing for college and going back to school. There are so many smartphones to choose from but we picked that we think are the best for you or for your kids.

Here are our best smartphones under P10,000 (in no particular order)

Asus Zenfone Max (P8,495)

Want more battery power? There is no smartphone in this price range that can take you days of power and endurance and the Asus Zenfone Max is your best choice. It has a 5.5-inch display, a quad core processor from Qualcomm with a generous 2GB RAM for your games. It has 4G/LTE connectivity as well. It takes pretty good photos with its 13 megapixel camera and 5 megapixel selfie camera. One downside is it is quite chunky and heavy. If you don’t mind the bulk and heft, get the Asus Zenfone Max.

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5S (8,995)

Want more power, we mean, processing power? Then the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5S is worth the look! It looks just the like the more affordable Zenfone 2 Laser but with internals found on the Asus Zenfone Selfie. It has more power – an octacore Qualcomm processor and bigger 3GB RAM. Everything else is the same – 13 megapixel camera, 5 megapixel front camera, 5.5-inch display, LTE, 3,000 mAh battery. We are currently reviewing the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5S and we are loving its smoothness and lag free experience.

Kata M2L (P5,999)

The Kata M2L looks a lot like the Apple iPhone 6s Plus without the wallet-breaking price. It has a pretty decent 13 megapixel camera and takes good photos perfect for social media. For gamers, the 1.3GHz quad core processor and small-ish 1GB RAM is uninspiring but if you dont play games and just focused on social media plus you like its iPhone-ish looks, then the Kata M2L should be on your wish list. Oh, it has 4G/LTE too.

Starmobile UP Ultra (P6,999)

The Starmobile UP Ultra is currently on sale at P5,999 but the original price is P6,999. This is another good looking smartphone. Unlike the Kata M2L, the Starmobile UP Ultra has a bigger 2GB RAM. We love the phone’s display and camera performance too. As for the 2,500 mAh battery, we first thought it is quite underwhelming but to our surprise, it lasted much longer than expected. Worry not about after sales because Starmobile has one of the best after sales service we’ve seen on a local brand. Lastly, the thought of going to a service center won’t come into mind because Starmobile makes really good phones with great build quality.

MyPhone My36 (P6,999)

Looking for a sexy phone? The MyPhone My36 is worth your look! This sexy device managed to squeeze in a large 2,900 mAh battery without compromising its slim profile. This phone has a Full HD display which means it is sharper and brighter than its competitors. We also love how MyPhone brought back the iconic Philippine map at the back. It makes us feel proud as a Filipino. MyPhone is also known for making smartphones with great build quality that will last for years.

Cherry Mobile G1 (P5,999)

One problem we had with local smartphones is their inability to update to Google’e latest version of Android. Now, if you are the type of user who wants the first taste of the latest version of Android, there’s no other option but the Cherry Mobile G1. The device is an Android One device which means, Google in charge with the design and specs of the phone and Cherry Mobile is only assigned to make the device, marketing and after sales. It runs 100% vanilla Android meaning it has no tweaks from Cherry Mobile. You will also get the latest from Android for 2 years! It currently runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and since Android N is just around the corner, you will be the first to experience it!

MyPhone My35 P6,888)

Just priced P100 under the My36, the MyPhone My35 is also a good choice. The phone resembles so much of the old Apple iPhone 4s. The back is removable that reveals the SIM card slots but when intact, if feels like a unibody design. You will get the same specs same as the My36 including LTE connectivity.

Cloudfone Excite Prime (P3,999)

If you don’t mind a phone lacking LTE, the Cloudfone Excite Prime will indeed get you excited. Good camera, nice display, decent battery life, everything checks in. We also love the texture of the phone that feels like holding a basket ball.

Acer Liquid Z630 (P6,990)

Want something unique? The Acer Liquid Z630 stands out from the crowd. The design reminds us the old Samsung Galaxy S3 with its pebble-like design and brushed metal look. Acer is still establishing its presence on the smartphone market since they are only known here as a good brand for PCs. Trust us, Acer makes good smartphones too. 🙂

Lenovo Vibe P1m (P7,999)

The Lenovo Vibe P1m is your best alternative to the Asus Zenfone Max. It has a large 4,000 mAh battery but compared to the Zenfone Max, the Lenovo Vibe P1m has a smaller 5-inch display. Though we find it a little pricey, we will still recommend it for you. You really can’t beat that big battery.

We have other phones in mind that you might want to consider. Here they are:
