HARDWARE AND DESIGN
Obviously, the Lenovo Vibe P1 is gorgeous smartphone, the metal chassis indeed adds this certain premium feel on the device. The top most part is actually plastic which covers the microSD card slot and SIM card trays. The combination of the metal body and big battery makes the device a little hefty for some but personally, we do not find the device really heavy.
Have you notice that flip switch, sort of, on the top left side? That is a quick menu switch. Flip it upwards and it will reveal the time and basic menus such as phone, contacts and SMS. You can add three more menus there.
Honestly, we not fans of Lenovo’s displays on smartphones. We find them a bit off and sometimes blurred at times. But with the Lenovo Vibe P1, everything looks sharp and with good color balance. Auto brightness works perfectly. You also have an option in the settings to adjust the color balance to your liking. There is also Smart Brightness in which if turned on, enhances visibility under direct sunlight outdoors.
SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE
Lenovo opted to put the traditional Android app tray on the Lenovo Vibe P1 and toned town its Vibe UI look. As a result, it looks more vanilla Android which we like. Change to overall look including the icons and color themes is possible with Lenovo’s own theme store.
Performance-wise, the Lenovo Vibe P1 delivers smooth and lag free experience. Gaming is a also a joy but we wish additional capacity from the 2GB RAM especially with this price point.
We do have a very capable 13 megapixel and 5 megapixel cameras here. So far we happy with the photos we’ve taken. Check out some of them below.
Both SIM card slots are LTE capable and you can use both for fast data. LTE data speeds are within normal range whether using Smart or Globe SIMs.
Unlike on our review of the Asus Zenfone Max, we didn’t make a comprehensive battery test here. Though we did close monitoring of the phone’s endurance. On our mixed moderate to heavy use, we were able to get a solid 26 hours of power with 5% battery left in the tank. On our casual moderate use, we were able to squeeze in about 32 hours of battery. That is very impressive considering the phone is powered by an octa core processor which hogs more power than the Zenfone Max with has a quad core chipset.
Lenovo has combined the things many smartphone buyers are looking for – beauty, power and performance. The Lenovo Vibe P1 is truly a beauty and a beast all at the same time. 🙂
