HARDWARE AND DESIGN
The Acer Liquid Z630 reminded us of the old Samsung Galaxy S3 with its curved edges that resembles the pebble-like design of the Galaxy S3. It is quite big but not hefty. Good thing it is quite manageable to hold with one hand. Acer has thrown some of its unique design cues such as the rounded earpiece and brushed metal look at the back.
We had no problems with the phone’s large 5.5-inch HD display. It is quite readable under sunlight and has good viewing angles too. We just noticed it has some red hue to it so when we take a look at our photos, it tends to be on the warm side.
Powering the Acer Liquid Z630 is Mediatek’s new quad core MT6735 processor. We never had problems with its performance. Navigation and doing tasks are quick and breezy. Slowdowns were encountered when playing high graphic games such as Asphalt 8.
Acer made some few tweaks on its UI making the phone look and feel vanilla Android. When we first used the device, there were already pre-installed Acer apps and other games and chat apps like BBM. You can uninstall some of them to free up the space.
It may not have the best camera on a smartphone but photos look fine. Perfect for sharing on your social media. You can check out some of our sample photos below.
For its price point, it is rare to see an international brand such as Acer to offer a smartphone with LTE. Our LTE reception is quite inconsistent. There are times that we get very weak LTE signal compared to another LTE smartphone using the same network. But calls are clear and WiFi works fine.
Obviously, aside from a big screen, the battery is the device’s main selling point. The 4,000 mAh battery managed to last for two days on moderate usage. We used the phone for our heavy usage test – 2 hours of IWant TV, 1 hour gaming, and 1 hour You Tube at auto brightness with WiFi and LTE turned on. We got around 12 hours of battery with more than 30% left in the tank. Amazing!
The Acer Liquid Z630 is perfect for those people always on the go. These people won’t need to pass by a coffee shop or a charging station just to get more battery juice. LTE, good display and its unique design are just bonuses for its P6,990 price tag.
