When Nokia’s smartphone business has been sold to Microsoft last year, we kept asking ourselves – What will happen to the current Nokia stores in malls? There are still Nokia stores around. As far as we know, Nokia stores in Metro Manila are in the following malls – Glorietta, Robinsons Galleria, SM North Edsa, SM Manila and SM BF Paranaque.
During yesterday’s launch of the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM and Microsoft Lumia 540 Dual SIM, Microsoft Devices Head of Marketing in Pan Asia Gary Chan said they will be putting up Microsoft Stores in SM Malls this year. The Microsoft executive said Philippines is one of the largest Lumia users in terms of market share. Probably, there are still die hard Nokia fans here and they continue to buy Lumia products even if its already branded as Microsoft. Mr. Chan said the Lumia 535 which has launched late last year a sizable amount of sales in the Philippines.
Having Microsoft stores in the Philippines might also pave way for Microsoft’s Surface tablets to be available here and further strengthen Microsoft’s presence on the hardware arena. It is safe to assume that current Nokia stores will be renovated and rebranded as Microsoft stores.
