The Philippines’ No. 1 TV network, ABS-CBN, launched its Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) service called ABS-CBN TVPlus. DTT is a new broadcast technology that is set to replace analog TV broadcast. It uses a special device called Digital Terrestrial Receiver that is installed on your TV sets. Once installed, you’ll get crystal clear and cable-like reception. No need to move your antenna whenever you switch channels!

ABS-CBN has been plagued with complains about its poor analogue signal quality for years now especially in Metro Manila. This is one of the mains reasons why rival GMA Network became No. 1 in Mega Manila in 2004 when it comes to ratings. This DTT technology is now being used by many countries around the world who doesn’t want to avail cable or satellite TV services.

So here’s a question you might be asking – Can I watch other channels (such as GMA or TV5) on this ABS-CBN TVplus box? Absolutely! ABS-CBN will also add four channels exclusively for TVplus users.

  • DZMM Teleradyo – a 24-hour news channel
  • Yey! – a kiddie channel
  • Knowledge Channel – an education and information channel
  • Cine Mo – a 24-hour movie channel

SkyCable subscribers are already familiar with these channels. However, DTT frequency is still limited. Here are the list of areas with DTT frequencies:

  • Metro Manila
  • Rizal
  • Cavite
  • Bulacan
  • Pampanga
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Tarlac
  • Pangasinan
  • Benguet
  • Metro Cebu

Here’s an unboxing and demo of the ABS-CBN TVplus:

The TVplus, however, doesn’t come free. The TVplus box is priced at P2,500 but that’s only one-time payment. Unlike cable or satellite services, you don’t have to pay any monthly service fees.

The ABS-CBN TVplus is now available online via http://www.abs-cbnstore.com and select retail stores like SM Appliance Center, Solid Service Centers, Villman Computers, and Silicon Valley branches.
