Taking selfies a lot but doesn’t have a lot inside the wallet? We recommend the Starmobile Up Lite. We have not reviewed it yet but we spend a couple of minutes with a demo unit at a Starmobile event a few days ago. Specs include a quad core processor, 1GB RAM, 4.5-inch display, Android 4.4 Kitkat, 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera with Back Side Illumination and LED flash. We are pretty sure you’ll get good selfies even in low light.

We really commend Cherry Mobile for releasing devices running Windows. We have always been fans of Windows Phone because it is simple to use, smooth and lag free. Office Mobile is also free! We immediately bought a Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe and used it during our vacation in Korea.  Want something different? Try Windows Phone. Buy the Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe.

The Kata F1s is a solid performer. It can breeze through your daily tasks. It takes pretty decent pictures and run games smoothly too. Compared with other smartphones, this one has a higher qHD resolution on a 4.5-inch display. If you want your phone to be in yellow, the Kata F1s is the phone for you.

The difference between the Starmobile Up and Up+ is very minimal. The Up+ has a bigger 8GB internal memory compared to Up’s 4GB. The Starmobile Up that we reviewed is already phased out so what you will see in stores is the Up+. This is one of our favorite budget smartphone. If you want a solid smartphone with freebies, take a look at the Starmobile Up+.

This is the phone that started the trend. Five inch smartphones from local brands used to be priced above 7k. When MyPhone Rio was released, competition has just got even better. Starmobile released the Up and Up+, Cherry Mobile Released the Omega Spectum and Omega Icon, Cloudfone has the Excite 502q, SKK Mobile followed too. You may only get Android 4.2 Jellybean out of the box but the Rio can now be upgraded to Android 4.4 Kitkat when you bring them to any MyPhone service center.
