Starmobile Up Review

MyPhone Rio Review

DESIGN AND HARDWARE:

Both smartphones have great build quality. But the Rio has a slight advantage of having color options. You can also buy different back covers for only P99.

Winner – MyPhone Rio

DISPLAY:

Well, the obvious winner here is the Rio because of its 5-inch HD IPS LCD display. The display is perfect for multimedia use especially for watching HD movies and playing HD games.

Winner – MyPhone Rio

PERFORMANCE:

Both phones are running Mediatek’s 1.3GHz Quad Core MT6582 processor but the Starmobile Up has a slightly newer version. They performed extremely well on basic and extreme tasks. Playing intense games like Dead Trigger was generally smooth. Lags are more often on Rio by a hair line and loading games takes a little while compared to the Up. One big advantage of the Up is it is running Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box. The Rio is said to be upgraded to Kitkat soon.

Winner – Starmobile Up

CAMERA:

When it comes to camera, both phones take wonderful photos on good lighting conditions. The advantage of having back side illumination on the Starmobile Up makes photos look better without flash on dark settings.

Winner – Starmobile Up

CONNECTIVITY:

WiFi, HSPA+, USB OTG and Bluetooth worked just fine on both phones. HSPA+ on Globe and Smart networks works well on both phones. The Starmobile Up has a wider quadband GSM connectivity. It means you bring your phone to Europe and US. The Rio, meanwhile, has triband GSM connectivity. WiFi connection on the Up is much better than the Rio too.

Winner – Starmobile Up

BATTERY:

Both phones have 2,000 mAh battery but the Starmobile Up has better battery life. Why? The Up’s low resolution display consumes less power than the Rio’s HD display.

Winner – Starmobile Up

VERDICT:

On this comparison, we will not choose from the Rio and the Up. The choice will be up to you and to your preferences. For us both phones are the best smartphones you can buy under 5k.
