HARDWARE AND DESIGN:

One thing we like about the Excite 502q is its lightweight body. But we are not fans of its shiny and glossy back cover. The Rio, however, has a heavier chassis but we do love its matte finish back cover. Both phones have overall good build quality.

Winner – MyPhone Rio

DISPLAY:

Of course, the Rio is a clear winner here because of its 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 display). But thanks to the Excite 502q’s One Glass Solution (OGS), the 5-inch FWVGA IPS LCD display (854 x 480 pixels) has a brighter display with better viewing angles.

Winner – MyPhone Rio

PERFORMANCE:

Both phones have smooth performance especially on basic tasks. The only thing we notice on the Rio is it loads Dead Trigger 2 a little longer than the Excite 502q.

Winner – Cloudfone Excite 502q

CAMERA:

Picture quality for us is the same even if the Excite 502q has bigger 12 megapixel rear camera versus the Rio’s 8 megapixel camera. Viewing at the photos taken, the Rio has a cooler tone while the Excite 502q has a warmer tone.

Winner – Both

BATTERY:

We were surprised that the Excite 502q’s 1,800 mAh battery lasted longer than the Rio’s 2,000 mAh battery. Sometimes, having a low resolution display has its benefits.

Winner – Cloudfone Excite 502q

VERDICT:

We believe that the Cloudfone Excite 502q and MyPhone Rio caters to two different users. The Excite 502q is for users who wants a lightweight phone and a longer battery life but doesnt mind its low res display. Users who mainly use their smartphones for multimedia use will surely buy the Rio because of its HD display, good camera and impressive build quality.

But if you are going to ask us, we prefer the MyPhone Rio simply because of its display. The problem though is the availability. It is still out of stock on many MyPhone stores and retailers. Luckily you can buy the Rio via online stores Lazada and Kimstore. We also spotted MyPhone’s kiosk in SM Megamall selling the Rio but only the white variant is available.
