Finally! We have the king of affordable quad core smartphones for review! Here’s a short back story. When the MyPhone Rio was announced last summer, we are one of the tech blogs eager to get a hands on with it. Everyone was shocked that time because of its pricetag, only P4,999. To own a smartphone with a 5-inch HD display, quad core, 8 megapixel camera and with color options for only 5k is absolutely a big value for money. Unfortunately, we were not able to attend the event that time. So, when we learned that the phone is already out in the market, we decided to buy one. The problem, though, all of the MyPhone stores, kiosks and even retailers ran out of stock. It was basically hard to find. Good thing, online store Lazada, has stocks ready and we picked blue!

When we were always asked what is the best among the local brands in terms of design, quality and after sales service. We say two brands – MyPhone and Starmobile. We may sound biased here but its true. MyPhone made a good move offering the Rio with different colors, it made the phone appealing to teens especially first time Android users. This blue unit we have here is an eye candy. In fact, it draw some attention when we were using it while we were in Coffee Bean (our favorite hang out). A kid’s mother asked us what phone we are using and how much. She said her daughter wants to buy one.
Despite its plastic feel, it doesn’t feel cheap. The phone is rock solid and well built, one thing we love about smartphone made by MyPhone. On the software side, MyPhone made some customizations with the stock Android UI. Icons and themes really cater to the younger crowd with its pastel colored wallpapers and icons.
Now, we are excited to put this phone to the test! We will be testing everything from the battery, performance, etc. Full review coming soon including what’s inside the box. 🙂
