LG’s trio of flagship G series is complete – the LG G2, LG G2 Mini and LG G Pro 2. For today, we have here the mini version and we had a few minutes with it. The one that we will feature is unlocked, HSPA+ only version. There is an LTE version exclusively offered by Smart on Plan 1200. With the LG G3 coming very soon, is it ok to buy the G2 series? Let’s find out.

This is really indeed the mini version of the flagship LG G2. Design-wise, everything is copied from the curves to the signature rear volume and power buttons. But unlike the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, the LG G2 Mini is a toned down version of the its bigger brother when it comes to specs. Nonetheless, the phone is extremely capable.
The quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 may an old chipset but still it performs well when doing basic tasks. Just don’t try to play extreme and memory hogging games and you’ll see the chipset’s weakness.
We were wondering why LG opted to put a qHD display instead of a 720p HD display like its competitors did for their mini versions. But when we saw the compelling P13,990 price tag, now we understand why. Anyway, the display remains to be sharp and vibrant which is LG’s core forte. Remember, LG is one of the companies who supplies IPS LCD panels to Apple for their iPhones and iPads.
As for the camera, we were not able to test it thoroughly due to our limited time with it. But we checked out the photos taken from the demo it and they look great especially if the intention is to post it on social media.
On paper, the 2,420 mAh battery should give the LG G2 Mini a full day of moderate use. We must have an in depth review the LG G2 Mini to further test its internals including the battery.
Verdict – A 4.7-inch display is still a soft spot for users with small hands. We know people and even friends who does not like smartphones bigger than 5-inches but finds the 4-inch iPhone 5s too small for them. We are glad that mainstream manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC have released mini versions of their flagship. All you have to do is to choose which specs will better suit you. 🙂
