Popular Asian tech website Tech In Asia has named 15 local Asian brands out to beat Samsung and Apple in terms of sales. The good news is, two Filipino brands – Cherry Mobile and Starmobile are included in the list. For the past 7 years after Apple and Samsung started their war for supremacy, they have been ruling the smartphone landscape globally. The problem is that both Apple and Samsung offer top of the line smartphones at very high prices. This is where local brands are born. They offer top notch specs at a very affordable prices.

Tech In Asia lauded Cherry Mobile for its strong sales and sheer number of current models which now accounts to 84 models. Yes, Cherry Mobile has 84 current smartphone models!

According to a survey conducted Jana Mobile, Cherry Mobile is the 3rd most owned brand in the Philippines after Samsung and Nokia.

Starmobile and Cherry Mobile have been fiercely competing both on tablet and smartphone space. One thing lacking with the local brands is LTE capability. This gap is currently being addressed by the local brands. Cherry Mobile has launched the Cherry Mobile W900 LTE but it lacks raw power and size to compete with high end smartphones. Starmobile revealed that they plan to release an LTE phone this year. With the rate of aggressiveness these brands have, it will not take long before they can topple off Samsung from the No.1 spot.
