China and the Philippines may have territorial dispute but when you take a look at the Philippine smartphone market, it is a different story. Chinese smartphone makers have been present for quite sometime now and they do love attention. Way back it was just Lenovo and Alcatel (Alcatel is part Chinese, part French). Then in 2013, Gionee came with a bang. Earlier this month, Oppo made a big splash when they unveiled their latest smartphones. Another Chinese smartphone maker is coming. Folks meet Xiaomi!
Xiaomi has been known for copying Apple’s designs and following its footprints when it comes to marketing strategy. They were often criticized by that. Even Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun has been imitating Steve Jobs by wearing the same jeans and black shirt during product launches. However, besides these criticisms, Xiaomi’s smartphones are praised with its good build quality.
The company is now planning to expand outside of China to Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. According to our sources, Xiaomi will be entering our market by May of this year. Stay tuned.
