HARDWARE AND BUILD QUALITY:

Both tablets do have aluminum chassis that makes these devices look expensive than its pricetag. Just like what we’ve said on our review, you can fool anyone that you own an iPad Mini. Build quality of both tablets are excellent too. But we will give this round to the Starmobile Engage 8 Quad mainly because of two things – the Engage 8 Quad has HDMI support and its USB OTG (On-The-Go) capable.

Winner – Starmobile Engage 8 Quad

DISPLAY:

Both tablets sports an IPS XGA display (1024 x 768). Both are perfect to games and watching videos. One gripe we had is the lack of light sensor which means we have to manually adjust the brightness on both tablets.  One advantage of the Starmobile Engage 8 Quad over the Kata Fishtab 3 is the former has less glare and better view under direct sunlight.

Winner – Starmobile Engage 8 Quad

PERFORMANCE:

We do have a clear winner here. The Starmobile Engage 8 Quad is powered by a 1GHz quad core Allwinner A31 processor while the Kata Fishtab 3 has a faster 1.8GHz quad core Rockchip 3188 processor. Overall fluidity and smoothness is very evident on the Kata’s tablet offering over Starmobile’s bet.

Antutu Benchmark scores:

Kata Fishtab 3 – 19,575

Starmobile Engage 8 Quad – 12,094

Winner – Kata Fishtab 3

BATTERY:

Another difference between the two tablets is the battery. The Engage 8 Quad is powered by a 3,800 mAh battery while the Fishtab 3 sports a bigger 4,400 mAh battery. Both tablets lasted about 10 hours of moderate usage. But we find the Starmobile tablet fared better on our intense battery test. The Fishtab 3 lasted only 6 hours while the Engage 8 Quad lasted for 7 hours. Our intense battery test includes long hours of gaming and video.

Winner – Starmobile Engage 8 Quad

VERDICT:

Based on this comparison, the clear winner here is the Starmobile Engage 8 Quad. But we can’t ignore the Kata Fishtab’s better performance. For us personally, the lesser lags, the better. The Kata Fishtab 3 performed extremely well on our tests and we consider this one a better tablet. If you can forgive the Fishtab’s shortcomings like the glare of the display, shorter battery life, and the lack of HDMI and OTG, we strongly recommend the Kata Fishtab 3.
