Here are my initial impressions:

  • Design and Build Quality – No question. Apple’s design and build quality is unparalleled. It is the one of the best looking smartphones out there along with Sony Xperia Z1, HTC One and Nokia Lumia 925.
  • Performance – Both iPhones remains to be lag free as always.
  • Camera – Improved but not par with Nokia Lumia 1020’s superb camera. Photos taken from the iPhone 5s are better in low light or with flash.
  • Display – Apple no longer wears the best and most stunning display on a smartphone. I think that goes to Samsung with the Note 3 or Galaxy S4 and LG with the G2 already. The screen resolution remains the same with last year’s iPhone 5.
  • Features: The fingerprint scanner (Touch ID as Apple calls it) is very useful but not by much. I don’t put passcodes on my iPhone 5 before because it takes time to unlock it. Besides my life is an open book and I don’t hide anything on my phone. It all in my laptop. Hehehehe….
  • Battery – I was able to use my friend’s brand new iPhone 5s yesterday for quite long. I started playing along with the phone from 11am to 2pm from 92% it only droped 68%. I must say that the battery performance improved.
  • Value For Money – One word, EXPENSIVE! ┬áIt will be cheaper if you are going buy both phones through online stores like DBGadgets or Kimstore.

So, to answer the question does it disappoint me to see the iPhone remained to be small? Yes. I am disappointed. This is where I appreciate Samsung. I recent bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 after I sold my iPhone 5. I fell in love with my Note 3 immediately. My review about it will be posted here soon. There are reports that Apple is working on a 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhone for next year’s launch. Whether to switch back to iOS or not will also depend on another platform’s progress, Windows Phone. Microsoft mobile OS is growing in screen size, number of users and apps. I have been a Microsoft fan for years and I’m very excited to switch if Nokia will come out with a 5-inch phone.

Apple-made accessories are now available as well. The iPhone 5c case with those weird holes are priced P1,590 while the iPhone 5s case that covers the iconic Apple logo sells for P1,990.
